Tinmouth Volunteer Fire Department
The Tinmouth Volunteer Fire Department was formed in 1967 by an enthusiastic
bunch of volunteers.
Our first truck was an old 750 gallon oil truck with a portable pump
on it. The Old Grange building was modified to become the first Firehouse
of Tinmouth which now has become the Old Firehouse Stage.
After the Church burned in 1969 and was rebuilt in it's present location,
our present Firehouse was built on the where the Church once stood.
There are still two original members of that first Fire Department,
but down through the years many, many Tinmouth town folks have been
a member of the department. All have given generously of their time
and skills to help their neighbors in time of emergencies or needs.
We have slowly, through grants and fundraising, been able to improve
our trucks and equipment. Now we have two pumper tankers, one brand
new, and a large tanker as well as a utility pickup used for wildland
fires or other needs. We also have new turnout gear and airpacks
as well as a thermal imaging camera and a CO detector.
There are around twenty active men and woman on the department as well
as a very active Junior Fire Department. We respond to all kinds
of emergencies in town as well as mutual aid calls to other towns,
including structure fires, accidents, entrapments, and any wildland
fire. One of our most important activities is promoting fire safety
at the schools, and selling fire detectors and extinguishers at Town
Meeting.
